Google Business Profile: How Local Businesses in Jind(HR) and Chandigarh Get Found on Maps
When someone nearby searches for a shop, clinic or service, Google shows a map and three businesses first. Here is how to set up and grow your Google Business Profile so you are one of them.
Think about the last time you searched for "dentist near me" or "mobile repair shop". You probably looked at the map and the first three listings, and called one of them. You never reached page two.
For most local businesses, that map box is the most valuable space on the internet, and it is controlled by one free tool: your Google Business Profile.
What a Google Business Profile is
It is the listing that appears when people search for your business name or for what you sell nearby. It shows your name, address, phone number, opening hours, photos, reviews and a button to call or get directions. It is free, and you can manage it from your phone.
Step 1: Claim and verify your listing
Search for your business name on Google Maps. If a listing already exists, claim it. If not, create one. Google then asks you to verify that you really run the business, usually by a phone call, a text, a video or a postcard to your address, depending on your listing. Until you verify, you cannot edit the profile properly.
Step 2: Fill in every field
An incomplete profile ranks below a complete one. Check each of these:
- Business name exactly as it appears on your shop board, with no extra keywords added
- Full address and a correct pin on the map
- A phone number that you actually answer
- Opening hours, including holidays and special days
- Your website link
- A short description of what you do, who you serve and which areas you cover
Step 3: Pick the right categories
Your main category tells Google what you are. Choose the one that fits your business most closely, such as "Digital marketing agency" or "Dental clinic", then add a few secondary categories for the other things you do. Do not add categories that do not describe you.
Step 4: Add real photos
Photos of your shop front, the inside, your team and your work make people trust you before they call. Use real photos, not stock images. Add new ones every month, because a profile with fresh photos looks alive.
Step 5: Collect reviews the right way
Reviews are the strongest signal customers and Google look at. A few simple rules:
- Ask every happy customer, right after the job is done, while they are still pleased
- Send them your review link by WhatsApp, so it takes them one tap
- Reply to every review, good or bad, politely and in plain language
- Never buy reviews, never offer gifts for reviews, and never write your own. Google can remove them and can penalise your listing
Step 6: Post updates regularly
You can add short posts to your profile: an offer, a new service, an event or a tip. Posting once or twice a week shows that the business is active.
Step 7: Keep your details the same everywhere
Your business name, address and phone number should read exactly the same on your Google profile, your website, your social pages and any directory listings. Small differences, like "Opp." in one place and "Opposite" in another, confuse search engines about whether they are the same business.
Step 8: Check how you are doing
Your profile shows how many people found you, called you, asked for directions or visited your website. Look at these numbers once a month. If calls go up after you add photos or reviews, you know what is working.
Common mistakes
- Leaving a listing unverified for months
- Keeping an old phone number or old opening hours
- Ignoring negative reviews instead of answering them
- Having two listings for the same shop, which splits your reviews
- Stuffing the business name with keywords, which can get the listing suspended
